Short answer: On its public US plans, DoorDash takes 15% (Basic), 25% (Plus) or 30% (Premier) of the subtotal of each delivery order, and 6% of each pickup order on any plan. DoorDash says these rates include payment processing, and that it charges no activation, subscription or monthly fee. Below is what each plan costs you in dollars, what you keep, and how to price so delivery stays profitable.
Rates checked on DoorDash’s official merchant pricing pages on October 23, 2026. They apply to US restaurants on DoorDash’s standard partnership plans. Your market or contract can differ, so check your merchant portal.

What the commission is charged on
DoorDash describes the commission as a percentage of each order’s subtotal, which is the food and drink the customer orders, not a flat fee. The customer’s own delivery fee, service fee and tip are separate charges paid by the customer.
What’s included and what isn’t
- Included: DoorDash says the commission covers your listing and marketing in the app, Dasher delivery logistics, customer support and credit card processing. Its pricing page says there is “no activation fee, no subscription fee, no payment processing fee.”
- Not included: optional ads, promotions or a tablet you choose to add, and your own costs (food, packaging, labor).
- Pickup at 6% requires your DoorDash pickup menu prices to match your in-store prices, according to DoorDash’s plan terms.
- Online Ordering by DoorDash (orders from your own website) is listed as commission-free on all plans, though DoorDash notes those orders carry a payment processing fee.
- Optional extras: DoorDash lists a DoorDash Tablet at $6/week after the trial, plus optional Promotions and Sponsored Listings.
DoorDash notes that these partnership plans are for restaurants with 75 or fewer US locations. Larger brands and custom contracts can have different rates.
What you actually keep: worked examples
Here’s one menu item on every plan. Example numbers: a $15.00 item with a $4.50 food cost (30% food cost), sold at the same price in the app as in-store, with no packaging cost included.
| Plan | Commission | DoorDash pays you | Profit after food cost | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic (15%) | $2.25 | $12.75 | $8.25 | 55% |
| Plus (25%) | $3.75 | $11.25 | $6.75 | 45% |
| Premier (30%) | $4.50 | $10.50 | $6.00 | 40% |
| Pickup (6%) | $0.90 | $14.10 | $9.60 | 64% |
“Profit” here means the item price minus commission and food cost only. Your labor, rent, packaging and other overhead still have to come out of it, so the real number is lower.
Example: a month of orders
Example numbers: 200 delivery orders a month with an average $30 subtotal ($6,000 in delivery sales).
- Basic: 15% × $6,000 = $900 a month in commission
- Plus: 25% × $6,000 = $1,500 a month
- Premier: 30% × $6,000 = $1,800 a month
The difference between Basic and Premier in this example is $900 a month. A higher plan only pays for itself if its extra reach brings in enough additional orders to cover that gap. Track your order count before and after you switch plans, not just the commission rate.
How to price your menu for DoorDash
DoorDash’s own pricing page says you can set different prices for delivery orders, and many restaurants do. The mistake to avoid is adding the commission percentage to your price, because the commission is then taken from the higher price.
The markup trap
Example numbers: a $10.00 item on Premier (30%). Add 30% and it’s $13.00. DoorDash takes 30% of $13.00 ($3.90), so you receive $9.10, which is less than the $10.00 you get in-store.
The right formula
To receive the same amount you get in-store, divide by one minus the commission rate:
Delivery price = in-store price ÷ (1 − commission rate)
| In-store price (example) | Basic 15% | Plus 25% | Premier 30% |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10.00 | $11.76 | $13.33 | $14.29 |
| $15.00 | $17.65 | $20.00 | $21.43 |
Pricing to a target margin
If you’d rather price each item to a target profit margin, use:
Price = food cost ÷ (1 − commission rate − target margin)
Example numbers: $4.50 food cost, Premier (30%), 30% target margin: $4.50 ÷ (1 − 0.30 − 0.30) = $4.50 ÷ 0.40 = $11.25. If commission plus target margin is 100% or more, no price works, so lower the target or pick a lower-commission plan.
You don’t have to mark up every item by the same amount. Many operators mark up high-volume, low-cost items less and protect margin on items with expensive proteins. Our free calculator compares every DoorDash and Uber Eats plan for one item at once.
Which DoorDash plan should you choose?
Basic: test delivery at the lowest rate
Basic fits a restaurant trying delivery for the first time or protecting thin margins. You pay the least per order, but DoorDash says Basic has a smaller delivery area than Plus and Premier, so expect fewer orders.
Plus: more reach and DashPass
Plus adds a wider delivery radius, a lower delivery fee for customers, and access to DashPass members, DoorDash’s subscription customers. Compare the extra orders against the 10-point jump in commission.
Premier: maximum exposure, highest rate
Premier has the widest delivery range plus extras, including an order guarantee: DoorDash says it refunds that month’s commission if you don’t get at least 20 orders, during your first 6 months as a Premier merchant, provided you cancel fewer than 5 orders and stay open for 90% of your set hours. Read the exact terms on DoorDash’s pricing page before you rely on them.
Don’t ignore pickup
At 6%, pickup orders cost far less than delivery on every plan. If your area allows it, promote pickup to regulars and keep pickup prices equal to in-store prices so you qualify for that rate.
Quick checklist before you sign up or switch plans
- Confirm the rate for your store in the DoorDash Merchant Portal. Market rules and contracts vary.
- Cost your top 10 delivery items: food plus packaging per order.
- Set delivery prices with the formula above, not a flat percentage.
- Keep pickup prices equal to in-store prices if you want the 6% rate.
- After 30 days, compare order count and net payout, not just sales.

No. DoorDash’s pricing page says there is no activation, subscription or monthly fee on these plans. You pay commission only when orders come in.
Is payment processing extra on DoorDash?
