The Uber One surcharge on Plus

Uber One is Uber’s customer membership. Plus lets those members order from you, but Uber’s pricing page lists an extra 5% fee on Uber One orders. On Plus, a member’s order costs 30%, the same as Premium. If many of your customers are members, Plus can cost nearly as much as Premium without Premium’s extras.

Premium extras, in plain English

  • Minimum order protection: for your first 6 months, Uber says it reimburses the Marketplace Fee in any month you get fewer than 20 orders, provided you have fewer than 3 cancellations or missed orders and stay online for at least 95% of your listed hours.
  • Uber One: members can order from you at no extra fee, and Uber lists a complimentary one-year Uber One membership for you or a staff member.
  • Ads matching: Uber says it matches ad spend up to $100 a month.
  • Photo package: a complimentary premium menu photo package (Uber values it at $250+).

City exceptions

Uber lists lower Lite starting rates (from 15%) in several regulated markets, including Portland, Washington DC, Minneapolis, New York City, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and others. Some of those markets add separate processing fees. Uber’s page notes, for example, a 3% card processing fee and 5% pickup in New York City. If you’re in one of these markets, use the rates in your own Uber Eats Manager.

Other Uber products

  • Uber Eats Webshop (orders from your own branded site): listed at 2.5% + $0.29 per order.
  • Uber Direct (Uber couriers deliver orders from your own channels): listed from $7.99 per delivery.

What you keep on Uber Eats: worked examples

Example numbers: a $15.00 item with a $4.50 food cost (30%), sold at the in-store price, with no packaging cost included.

ScenarioFeeUber pays youProfit after food costMargin
Lite (20%)$3.00$12.00$7.5050%
Plus (25%)$3.75$11.25$6.7545%
Plus, Uber One order (30%)$4.50$10.50$6.0040%
Premium (30%)$4.50$10.50$6.0040%
Pickup, validated (7%)$1.05$13.95$9.4563%
Pickup, not validated (10%)$1.50$13.50$9.0060%

Example: self-delivery isn’t automatically cheaper

Self-delivery is 15%, but you pay the driver. Example numbers: if a driver costs you $5.00 per delivery (wages, mileage and insurance; use your own figure), the $15 item above costs $2.25 in fees plus $5.00 in driver cost, or $7.25. That leaves $3.25 after food cost, worse than Premium in this example. Self-delivery tends to make sense for larger orders or when your staff would be paid anyway.

Example: a month of orders

Example numbers: 200 delivery orders a month at a $30 average subtotal ($6,000).

  • Lite: 20% = $1,200 a month
  • Plus (no Uber One orders): 25% = $1,500
  • Premium: 30% = $1,800

If half of those Plus orders came from Uber One members, Plus would cost $1,650: $3,000 at 25% plus $3,000 at 30%.

How to price your menu for Uber Eats

Don’t just add the commission percentage

Example numbers: a $10.00 item on Premium (30%). A 30% markup makes it $13.00, but Uber takes $3.90 and you receive $9.10, which is less than in-store.

Use this instead

Delivery price = in-store price ÷ (1 − fee rate)

In-store price (example)Lite 20%Plus 25%Premium 30%
$10.00$12.50$13.33$14.29
$15.00$18.75$20.00$21.43

To price to a target margin instead: price = food cost ÷ (1 − fee rate − target margin). Example numbers: $4.50 ÷ (1 − 0.25 − 0.30) = $10.00 on Plus with a 30% target margin.

Keep pickup prices equal to in-store prices if you want the 7% pickup rate. Uber says the lower rate depends on validated in-store pricing.
